Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

by Richard Perkins

Short post today from the San Jose Airport en route home for Turkey Day.

It seems that I’ve done it again. Remember that perfect job opportunity that I was just a few days away from landing? Due to the continuing fiscal woes (and in the renewable energy industry the stunning collapse of oil prices) hiring has been postponed until Q1 of 2009. Which translates to indefinitely, in my experience.

Ahh well. Sometimes when something seems too good to be true… it is.

In other news, the end of NaNoWriMo is rolling toward me like an unstoppable juggernaut. My novel is in good shape, and I’ll definitely cross the 50k word threshold. Finishing the story by the end of the month is the remaining hurdle. I’m trending toward a final word count of about 65k, which means I’ll need to write about 3000 words a day for the rest of the month to make it to the story’s triumphant conclusion.

Wish me luck!

Here’s the progress chart, for those who are interested in such things.
