Everyone has a slow week now and then…
by Richard PerkinsThis week was, as the title implies, slow. And a bit disappointing.
On the professional front, I learned that the solar start-up company I’ve had three rounds of interviews with has decided not to hire anyone right now. I suppose that’s better than finding that they’ve hired someone else they think is better qualified than me. But that’s a bit like running a marathon where the coordinators folded up and put away the finish line pavilion because everyone took too long to get there.
I had a first round interview with another bay area solar start-up company. It seemed to go well, but it’s difficult to tell for certain in these things. I also lined up a first round interview with another solar start-up for next week.
(yes, in case you’re keeping count, solar start-ups are flavor of the month here in silicon valley
)
On a more positive note, that should have left me more time to write. And to be honest I did manage to have one really productive writing day this week. I wrote a solid draft of a scene for chapter 12 that I’m pretty pleased with. But for the rest of the week I lacked the enthusiasm that I need to write.
I’m definitely finding that I write more confidently when I’m gainfully employed. There’s just something a bit nerve-wracking about not having a regular paycheck, even when the bank account is still healthy.
I’ll be posting the scenes from Chapter 3 tonight, which give you your first chance to meet with real mages from the Doormaker Council. Comments are welcome: encouragement, suggestions for improvement or directions you think the story line should explore. I’ve written drafts of the story up through Chapter 12, but there’s still a lot of work left before Devon’s adventure is complete, so send me your questions and comments.
Cheers from the sometime engineer sometime writer’s desk!
