Revising Renegade

by Richard Perkins

This week I’ve been working on a few revisions to my NaNoWriMo manuscript, The Renegade’s Door. I had a few friends read through my pre-read copy and give me some feedback, which was great. I’m adding three new scenes to the story to help develop some of the character relationships in the second half of the book. I’m also rearranging some of the scene order to make the main story line/flashback model more consistent throughout. And I posted one more scene in the Writer’s Lair for my online readers. Enjoy.

Next week I plan to work on the third installment of my Renewable Tech series. So if you have any requests for the next topic, leave a comment!

  1. I applaud you for getting past the post NaNo slump and making progress on editing your novel. I’m afraid I can’t say that I have been nearly as motivated. Got a tip to share?

  2. Sadly, no. The story I wrote for NaNo is a prequel to an earlier work that I never finished. And I’m eager to write the next story in this setting, but I’m not letting myself start the next story until this one is edited and submitted. I was a bit intimidated by the whole revision process until I read Holly Lisle’s One Pass Revision method here: http://www.hollylisle.com/fm/Workshops/one-pass-revision.html. It gave me the courage to start.
Good luck taking your NaNo novel to the next level.

  3. Thanks for the helpful comment concerning outlines.

Sounds like you’re very busy…but it’s a good kind of busy (I think!)

  4. No worries Rita! I’m always happy to offer my own writing quirks up for examination. (Even if they end up being used as examples of what not to do…)

It is a good kind of busy. But I’m not as busy as I should be. The end of January is hurtling toward me like a runaway shopping cart, and I haven’t finished drafting any of my three new scenes! Nothing like procrastination. At least I actually have outlines for 2 out of the 3. I will have a few long days ahead of me in order to meet my (personally imposed) submission deadline in February.

Good luck to you in finishing your own novel. It’s a long journey, but one definitely worth taking.

    Cheers.
